About

What does the future hold for our agriculture in a couple of decades if we continue to follow in the same footsteps?

How will we feed 10 billion people in 2050 in the face of estimates that food production will have to increase by up to 70%, even when 800 million still suffer chronic hunger today? Natural resources are being depleted faster than they can be regenerated; agricultural land is being degraded and biodiversity is being lost at levels regarded as threatening by experts, farmers, and even citizens themselves; climate changes are relentless and increasingly visible and the monopolistic power of a few companies in agribusiness is growing, changing the rules of the game to the detriment of nature in the area of seeds, soil and healthy plant growth.

However, we live at a time when change is possible and responsible and sustainable alternatives already exist. Thanks to the work of inspiring individuals and institutions, these changes are already a reality that is gradually pushing forward, and we hear of them, fortunately, more often with each day. Each and every one of us can eat more consciously and with these small bites contribute to a better world in which we can, and hopefully even want to, live.

Therefore, the future is in the hands of all of us. Let’s become the face of change and create new stories, a new chapter in the global food system.

The World on a Plate film festival (known abroad as AlimenTerre) is organised by the independent think tank Glopolis and is being held in the Czech Republic for the sixth time on the occasion of World Food Day (October 16). Local screenings and accompanying events are spreading throughout the Czech Republic thanks to partner organizations and individuals. You can also get involved.
